When you’re involved in your child’s education and school, your child is more likely to:

• Get higher grades and standardized-test scores
• Exhibit better behavior at home and school
• Miss less school
• Graduate on time
• Pursue postsecondary education.

In fact, parents’ engagement matters more to a child’s academic success than the family’s income or social status.  A study in 1994 by Henderson and Berla found that the most accurate predictor of your child’s achievement in school is not your socioeconomic status, but rather the extent to which you:

• Create a home environment that encourages learning
• Express high but realistic expectations for your child’s achievement and future career
• Become involved in their children's education at school and in the community.
